In-store coffee grinders...should I trust them?!

Question: I've thought of using them to grind some coffee, but am concerned about what other types of coffee or other stuff that it's been used for. For all I know, there could be molded cheese in those things. Should I trust those in store grinders? or just invest in a coffee grinder? or stick to buying ground coffee? Thanks.

I would invest in buying your own rather than buying ground coffee.
When you have your own grinder you can just grind what you need daily which means your coffee will be fresher.
Once coffee is ground, the coffee loses its flavour drastically. I think you will enjoy coffee more if you own your own grinder.

Haha, I have never thought of what could be in a store grinder....eewww.

You can sometimes get one cheap at a thrift store or at Schottensteins.

i don't use the ones in the store, because i don't want to get other flavors mixed in with the one i'm buying.

I would invest in a coffee grinder. I have a small, inexpensive one and it works great!
You don't know what someone may shove down one in the store. And you can grind as much as you need with your own.

Good point. There is always a possibility that someone spit in one of them or put something that should not be in there in there. We have a coffee pot with a built in grinder. It is worth getting the good one because in the long run, you will enjoy your coffee more. I will never go back to grounds, it is not as fresh.

I eventually bought my own. Only problem with it is, I have to be the one to clean it!

Pay the $20 for a new grinder. I never pay more than this for a grinder and they seem to last me at least 5 years with daily use. When I get a new on, I use the old for spices.
There seems to be a lot of fancy and expensive grinders on the market but I doubt they are any better than the basic grinders.

Absolutely, by far, no!

Little kids love those in-store grinders, other thing like little plastic pieces have been known to show up in them. As for the cleanliness, I would assume that they're cleaned occasionally, but idk, as it was never my dept. Also the extra flavors from other coffees is a big turn off.

Buy a cheap home grinder, its better.

I have several grinders. A whirly gig cheapo from wally world (the third of it's kind due to wear) and it is absolutely a piece of crap. I have a Chinese made cheap flat burr grinder that just came apart in use...another piece of crap...a Chinese made conical burr grinder that lasted a couple of years. However it was a $50.00 'Bargain' and the first year I owned it it was in the attic because the burrs were locked up on a small pebble. First week I used it, it shredded it's cheap plastic fan blades in the base of the unit...Pretty much a POC also...
With that said, I now own a MAESTRO PLUS burr grinder. A bit pricey but it has made all the difference in the world to my grounds. Consistent size allows me to use a SWISS GOLD filter without paper and now I get all the true coffee flavors.
I also bought a ZASS Turkish Grinder for travel. A little more work but great results.

Should you buy a grinder? If you do don't buy the cheap crap from wally world the Chinese outlet....
