un cafe macchiato is a short espresso with a bit of frothy milk.(coffee with milk)
latte- frothy milk with espresso (milk with coffee)

so if you had a caramel latte, what your getting is caramel flavoured frothy milk. a latte can't be macchiato because it's already milk... get it??

macchiato means stained in italian... milk stained coffee!! ha ha

i think she just made an error

real world:
macchiato is espresso with a dollop of milk foam on top
latte is espresso with lots of steamed milk and a little foam on top (you can add any flavor if you want)

Starbucks:
caramel macchiato is a vanilla latte with caramel sauce on top

I don't make the rules. This is the way it is.
