It will boil like any other water.
Your brother is thinking about water heated in a microwave oven. Pure water, heated by microwave, can become "super-heated" and upon opening the door and inserting a spoon or about anything else, the water can "explode" into steam, splattering you and badly burning the skin.
But in a pan,over regular heat, you should just see a regular boil.
If you are still worried--just add a dash of salt to the water.
