hello, you absolutely don't need the equipment to make your own bubble tea. there are sites to buy the Tapioca Pearls, here's one for starters...you can make a nice, tasty smoothy and simply add these rich pearls for a wonderful, irreplaceable texture. Good luck!

I think you should buy the special equipment if you want to have good bubble tea.
the only recipe I can find for this includes sugar... sorry... however, it appears the only special equipment necessary is a stainless steel/muslin tea filter, which can be purchased online or someplace like bed bath and beyond and is relatively inexpensive
