How do I make a really good pot of tea?!

Question: This is how I do it but it never tastes like when I have a cup at a tea shop. I warm the pot, throw that water out, put a teaspoon of tea leaves in (just for me), fill the pot about a third full with fresh hot water. Then leave it to stand for a couple of minutes. But It's either too weak or horribly stewed. What am I doing wrong? Is it the tea I'm using, the cup or what?!

you didn't specify which type of tea you are making. But the most important parts of tea making are:

the temp of the water
the amount of tea (3 gm per 6 oz water)
the time allowed to steep
the type of water

if any of these are incorrect or dramatically off, then you won't get a good cup of tea.

Could be the tea - try using two teaspoons.

Other than that you are doing it right for single cuppa

more sugar

You shold try pouring the water in just a second before it boils Therefore its hot enough but theres still some oxygen left in it.
theres also some other tips on this site.

Put T bags in first, then water mix with spoon quite alot, whether in t pot or mug. Put sugar in cups then either stir if tea already in. Then add little milk very slowly stirring at same time. If teabags in cups squeeze hard and take out!!

Try smelling it before pouring. I find it has a certain aroma when its just right.

What i normally do bud is: pour the water into the cup so it's nice & warm, then put the teabag in & boil the water, then pour it over the teabag while it's still boiling.....never fails!.....

But a teaspoon of sugar with the leaves

my granmother boiled the pot put the tea leaves in to boil for one minute, took the pot off the heat for one minute to let the tea settle before pouring.....enjoy

suit ur self

The water does not need to be hot at all. Tepid water works very well but does take a long time to make the flavor come out. Sun tea is what some call it and that sun is a way to keep the water very warm but not hot. If the water is too hot it does bring out the bitter flavor.

I know you tea experts disagree. You most likely like what you are told you should like and not what actually suits your taste.
