Know where to get drinking chocolate in the U.S.? (not hot chocolate)?!

Question: This is different than hot chocolate. It's popular in Mexico and Spain... It's not like concentrated chocolate powder, or anything... they make it by actually melting chocolate, so it's really rich, creamy, and smooth. I saw it on Unwrapped a couple of times, and it looks really good! Does anyone know of a U.S. chain store (like Dillons or Wal*Mart) that carries it? Thanks!

Here in California they sell a brand called "Abuelita" which is Mexican drinking chocolate. Nestle makes it. They sell it at Vons, Safeway, Stater's, and many other regular grocery stores.
Here's a website to locate it near you: http://www.nestleusa.com/PubOurBrands/Br...

EDIT: My answer has the slight advantage that you may be able to find it in an average store for about $4.00 ^_^

OMG, I had that yesterday!!!! In NYC. I went there specifically to try their hot chocolate. It is not made from a mix.

I didnt like it. It was toooooo rich for me. I had the one called Wicked. It was the mexican "spicy" version. They make the chocolate right there in the store. Check out the web site. They have a few videos' to watch and they are very interesting. Unfortunately, the web site says their canned hot chocolate's, both the "classic" and "wicked" will not be available over the web until 2/20.

btw, when the girl made our drinks, she used the frothing wand on the espresso machine to heat it up... just though you'd like to know that tid bit.

I'd go on foodnetwork.com
go to unwrapped
and look for the episode
they might have info

you can buy it in any gourmet store.

actually, you know what? you don't even need to buy it at a gourmet store. because all you need to do is melt a chocolate bar. that is basically what hot chocolate is.

there is hot cocoa mixes like the first poster who is talking about jacque torres in nyc (i wrote a nyc chocolate guide at http://www.tenementcity.com/map_chocolat... )

and there is hot chocolate where you melt chocolate, and add milk to it. so go buy the best chocolate bar you can find, check wal mart to see what they have in stock. chop up the chocolate, and melt it in a double boiler. stir in milk.

in spain and in some other countries like mexico, the chocolate contains corn masa, or even rice starch. this gives the chocolate drink a much richer mouthfeel.
