I'm afraid that in the words of musical comedian Mitch Benn, Everything Sounds Like Coldplay Now...half the groups that are out there are playing maudlin, self-pitying, intellectually pretentious piano-dirge, because even though no-one who ever heard Hendrix can understand who the hell is buying this junk, there are plenty of people who are.
I'm with the answerer who said this explained the rise and rise of iPods. We may all be isolating ourselves more and more from any shared consciousness, but that's only because the majority consciousness sounds like mawkish garbage...
