Is carbonated water bad for me?!


Question: I have tried researching it but people's answers keep getting me confused. To get to the bottom of it... I hate water. This year my goal was to quit cold turkey on drinking regular soda's. Well I hated regular water and wasnt drinking enough, so my husband had me try Sam's Choice Flavored Water, which is carbonated. The nutrion label has ZERO for everything. Yet, some people are saying carbonated water can erode my teeth because of sodium and other stuff. THIS SAYS ZERO of that. So is it okay that Im drinking 3 liters of this a day to keep hydrated??

The danger of acid in carbonated water is a myth. Carbon dioxide dissolved in water is a weak acid called carbonic acid. It is about the weakest acid you can get, and then it travels to the stomach which is full of hydrochloric acid, a very strong acid.
Also, just about every food you eat is slightly acidic, fruits most notably. Even milk is slightly acidic at a pH of 6.5 to 6.7, and whoever heard of milk being bad for the teeth and bones?
People who say that things should always be alkaline are repeating things first proposed in the 1950s. The most recent research shows that slightly acid is better, and the advent of things like proton pump inhibitors (prilosec) are increasing the rates of osteoporosis because the reduced stomach acid inhibits calcium absorption.

no problem with the carbonation .just watch the additives, some say they can cause problems

The carbonation is fine, you do need to watch the sodium content. Also, artificial sweetner is not good for you in large amounts either. Good luck!

There is nothing wrong when drinking Carbonated water.

3 litres of anything per day is a bit overboard. 6-8 glasses 8oz. should be sufficient liquid. Your body absorbs moisture from other sources...fruits, vegs. Carbonation changes the ph value in water making an environment detrimental to bacteria. This means good as well as harmful bacteria. Your digestion needs a level of healthy flora/fauna to function. Everything in moderation. why are you so thirsty...maybe reduce your salt intake.

Water in it's pure form is neutral with a pH of 7.0.

Any water with dissolved CO2 in it (carbonation) will be acidic. Acidic beverages will cause your tooth enamel to deterioriate.

Sodium does not erode teeth.

Get a Brita water filter pitcher and learn to like plain water. You aren't doing yourself any favors if you continue with your current preferences.
