Is it really a bad idea to freeze water in plastic bottles?!

Question: I don't think so. All the reports of chemicals leeching out of the plastic are when the plastic is HEATED, such as adding hot liquid or washing in dishwasher. I can't see how freezing would hurt. (btw, what "doesn't" cause cancer these days?)

well it can be done....just make sure the water isnt filled all the way up since it expands when it freezes. usually the lid will pop off from the ice. and the bottle is hard to open sometimes after....but u can do it. nothing bad will happen.

I used to think it was ok.
But now, with all the comments coming out about plastic bottles, and stuff leaking out of them... I don't think so... I am even thinking about getting an old fashioned aluminum ice tray...
If the stuff leaks out just sitting there, imagine what happens when you freeze the bottle and the plastic stretches....

My sister has been doing it for well over 20 years and she hasnt suffered any ill effects.

Every day she freezes a couple to take to work the next day and drinks it as it melts. Its probably one of those urban legends.

Not not at all who ever told you that freezing water in plastic bags releases a chemical is smoking crack.
