Why did it used to be illegal to drink coffee in Germany?!


Question: It has never been illegal to drink it, however in 1766 the Prussian king passed a law saying it couldn't be imported for 'private individuals'. This was overturned 20 years later.

Coffee contains a high level of Caffeine
Caffeine is a drug. Which does actually have quite a bad impact on your health, especially if you drink drinks with a lot of it in, like coffee.
The reason it was illegal was because of the Caffein content and the fact that it was a drug which is bad for your health.
The Germans are careful about their health.
