I left school 1953 at 15, I got a job as an apprentice moulder
my wage was £1.10shillings my mother got the £1 and I had the 10shillings to spend,
At 18 I could get a pint of beer for about 1shilling ten pence as far as I can remember, although I did smoke I cannot remember the price but probably the same as beer.sorry I can't help more. But when I was about 10years I got 1 shilling pocket money for this I had to feed hens and clean the hen house all week but I can remember being naughty I could get 5 woodbine, which was a strong cigarette, a book of matches get into the morning matinee, which was a children's show for the shilling, then as far as I can remember there was no age limit to buying cigarettes .hope this helps
