Question: I been hearing there is a huge concern with water now on this article I read. Mostly in the main cities. People found caffine, sex hormones and other chemicals in water. So what should I do? And also is bottle of water any different from tap water. I'm I wasting my money. Thanks

If you live in a city or anywhere else that has municipal water supply, you *could* drink straight from the tap. However, it is probably safer to install a carbon filter which will remove most organic impurities and improve the taste. Get the type that has a bypass valve, because when you're just washing dishes you don't want to use up your filter.

As far as bottled water- it is bad for the environment, due to the energy cost of bottling, making the plastic bottles and then trucking it to its destination. It is also expensive compared to tap water. Many companies that sell bottled water simply take city water and filter it with reverse osmosis, so its just glorified tap water. Some bottled water, if it is true mineral spring water like Perrier and Pellegrino comes from underground springs. If these springs are unspoiled, this type of water is likely safe and tastes good.

Some people have well water. If you have well water, you should have your well tested every year (or at least every 2 years) to make sure there is nothing bad in your well water. Most well water tastes good and is safe. But if you live in an area that has groundwater pollution, your well water could be contaminated.

Why are there drugs in our water? Because people flush unused medicines down the toilet. Also, when you take medicines, the metabolized products end up in your urine or feces and then the wastewater supply. Don't flush unused meds down the toilet. Take them to your town's hazardous waste center.

Trace amounts, but not enough to hurt you. This is just another blip in the American Scare You Media.
Keep drinking your tap water -- bottled water is so bad for the environment, and local water authorities need money now more than ever to update the very old pipes and systems in this country.

Its in bottled water too. They say the best water to get is the distilled water because of the way its evaporated or something like that. Hope this helps.

Alot of them so called bottled waters are nothing more than tap water in a pretty wrapper. So more than likely you'll be drinking the same thing, just paying more for it. This whole water story is crazy. At the same time...we have no one to blame but ourselves for it if indeed it turns out to be worse than reported. Just as with the global warming, and mass extinctions of animals...we the humans are the ones doing all of it. Going green is a little to late in my book. Don't stop drinking the water, as your body needs it to survive. "If" there is damage from this, I'm sure its to late to do anything about it anyways, seeing as long as it suppost to have been going on.

To clarify on what Distillation is - say you boil a pot of water and were able to capture the steam - that steam is distilled water and the purest form around. 2nd best is Reverse Osmosis which takes your water and pushes it through a series of tiny, tiny membranes to remove the contaminants.
As for bottled waters - just read the labels - it says exactly what minerals are in them. I stay away from Spring waters, and mineral waters as they are not much better than the tap water.
Bottled Reverse Osmosis water has taken a bad rap from some misinformed people in the last bit claiming it comes from the municipal water source - oh course it does. But if it says Reverse Osmosis on the label it must be treated that way which removes 99% of contaminants out of the water.
I suggest Aquafina, or Dasani

no difference stop buying it buy a bottle so u can make ur own bottled water

If you are concerned about any contaminates in tap water you can always purchase one of those brita filters or have a RO filter installed. For the most part there is stricter regulatoins on tap water than bottled water. Some states don't even have regulations on bottled water that is to be sold within the same state.

The orgin of bottled water depends of the company that bottles it. For instance one of the sources of Dasani water is the Detroit River. Personally, I use a Britta filter, they can't eliminate medications from water though.

I use a water treatment system which can be easily connected to your tap. I am so glad I had it before i found out about all the crap that comes with the tap water. Its such a boon as I can use it not only for drinking but also for cooking and rinsing of food...
