This is a dessert that is a hot favorite with the Chinese dialect group Teochew. It is known as "Oh Ni", or yam paste.
You use yam, cooked it and keep adding water and sugar syrup until it is watery. Served it with hot coconut milk and the smoothness of the coconut milk and the coarseness of the yam paste would have you asking for more -yummy!

Hawaiian Haupia Coconut Dessert. I love it at the Pink Palace of the Pacific - the Sheraton Waikiki. You can use gelatin or cornstarch as a substitute for arrowroot. Sago Pudding with Gula Melaka and coconut cream or santan is delicious. Longan Toufu made with coconut instead of almond essence. Lamington cake, one of the classic Australian cakes with dessicated sweet coconut flakes. Nasi Lemak is rice made with Pandan Leaves (Screwpine) and coconut cream. Enjoy! {:-)
