Answers: I am from Pittsburgh and everyone calls it pop. If you said soda we knew you werent from around PA. What do you call it??
From WV, but we use both terms - most say "pop"
It all depends on what part of the country you live in.
Here in southeastern PA - Philly metro area and the "Tri-state region", we call it "soda".

In the south they call them "soft drinks", or even, in rural areas, "cold drinks" - - - All such distinctions are regional. Boston's "soda" is Chicago's "pop" is Memphis's "soft drink".

It all depends on where you're from. Like down here in Fl we say soda. I had a friend who moved here from wichita, kansas and she says pop
Here in Southside Virginia, we call it Drink. Like, "What kind of drink do you want?" That way, everything is covered. If anyone calls it something other than that, we know they're not from here. :)
Depends on what part of the country your from..I am from New Mexico but born and raised in Texas...when we want that habit forming drink we say" I need a coke" then the next question posed by the buyer is "what do you want? Dr Pepper,Coke,Sprite,7up,Roor Beer,lol!
Funny, my grandparents always called it soda pop. We use both interchangably in our house, but in our region people usually say pop.
So funny; Florida: soda, Oklahoma: pop, California: soda, so listen to someone first or they will laugh at you like they laughed at me!! :))

My gran used to call it pop. Its certainly a word used in the UK, but more commonly its just a fizzy drink. Soda is very American and people here would not be well versed in its meaning.
