Is Darjeeling tea a flavor or a type?!
Answers: Before I buy it, I would like to know exactly where it falls in the great world of tea! Is it a flavor, like lemon and jasmine, or is it a type, like black tea and green tea? Thanks, and if you know, what's the best/your favorite brand of Darjeeling tea available, if you like it at all?
Darjeeling is a tea growing region of India so it is a type.
What you buy are blends that the various makers package, so as a rule they should all taste the same.
I have Twining's of London, and by chance I have just brewed a pot of it, so drop around with some biscuits.
it is atype of tea and my favourite brand is makaibari
Darjeeling is the place in India where the tea is grown. It has a mild flavour and many people reckon it is the
"champagne" of teas. The tea is marketed by different firms so you will have to choose from what is available. Personally, I think it is very satisfying particularly when you have it cold in the summer.
Darjeeling is a place where tea is produced. tea from this place are flavoured ones and do not give liquor (strong) tea. Its best when taken without milk, and tea leaves should not be boiled but should be allowed to soak in hot water.
If you want to learn more about tea, the Harney and Son website is a treasure trove of information. Here's what it says about Darjeeling tea:
"This great tea region is the source of some of the best teas in the world. The First Flush Season starts in March and yields a greenish, brisk tea full of flavor. In May and June, the Second Flush produces a browner, more mellow tea, still full of special flavor. We always choose teas that are light, bright, and flavorful.
What is a First Flush Darjeeling? A First Flush Darjeeling is a tea harvested in the Darjeeling Region. It is picked from the new growth of leaves, or first flush, of the season. The tea plants are grown at an altitude of between 2,000 and 6,000 feet. Picking begins in February and ends in April. The teas are greener and more aromatic than Second Flush. The Second Flush Darjeelings are picked from May until the rains of the Monsoons arrive in June."
Darjeeling teas are more subtle than regular black teas, and they tend to be more expensive. You can find them for sale on the Harney website, other tea company websites, or in a fancy supermarket or tea shop. In addition to black, there are also green and white Darjeeling teas.
I've listed two more tea companies' websites in the "source" field. Since I don't drink Darjeeling often, I can't recommend a particular source, but these are companies I've had good luck with in the past when buying other kinds of tea.
Good luck in your quest!
