Why does warm water not quench your thirst but cold does???!

Question: Warm water will give your brain the sensation of warmth and feeling that it is almost a meal as apposed to thirst quenching.

Cold or cool water will make your brain believe that your thirst is quenched when in reality your body will absorb room tempreture water must faster as it takes more energy to warm the water as it enteres your body.

So.... to quench your thirst room, tempreture water is the better option!

Have you really tried drinking warm water ?

It does quench your thirst, but you won't find it as refreshing going down, because it won't cool you as cold water does. It's actually supposed to be better for your system to drink warm water, as it's less of a shock.

i never really thought about that, i see what you mean now lol
cold water is good to drink anyway, it actually burns calories because your metabolism is working to get the water back up to body temp =]
love a nice glass of ice cold water

this is just a point of view.

warm water quenches my thirst and same with my friends and family. this might be becasue of where we live but cold water just goes straight thorugh me and doesn't quench my thirst.

Its a bit off an odd one this but...

A warm drink will acctually cool you down quench your thirst better than a cold drink on a hot day.
The initial feeling of drinking a cold drink does cool you down, but in the long run it acctually warms you up.
This is a throw back to our days living in a cave and having a body that can mildly control its tempreature.
Back in those days, if our caveman was to walk outside in the winter and drink from a stream, it would be cold, the body would realise this and know it was cold outside by the tempreature of the water coming into it and therefore set of a chain of reactions to keep the body warm, like raising the hairs on the body to insulate and keep in the warm air.
This would also work in the opposite manner, if our caveman was to drink warm water, the body recognises its warm and therefore bring the blood to the surface of the body to try and keep cool.
I know I may not have explained this too well, but it does kind of explain why a cup of tea on a summers day can seem so refreshing and sometimes more refreshing than a cold drink!

Personally I can NOT drink cold water. I have sensitive teeth and have ALWAYS waited for it to warm up.

Because warm water dries out your entire mouth and leaves it feeling kinda clammy. whereas, cold water refreshes you.

:))))

I don't know the scientific answer but I know nothing beats an Ice Cold tall glass of water.

because cold is exhilarating while warm makes you feel warm or tired. did you know that water will actually help keep you awake if you are tired, just get a nice cold glass and drink away
