What's the difference between Starbucks' Caramel Machiatto and a Latte w/ a caramel flavor shot?!

Question: I was reading the drink descriptions on their website and a Machiatto seems to be just a latte w/ caramel... is it not?

Actually there is a difference. I'm not sure what the girl above me is talking about. Macchiato means "marked by foam" in Italian. The caramel macchiato starts with vanilla syrup, then milk, then foam, then the espresso shots are poured on top, and caramel sauce is drizzled on the foam. This drink starts off as strong (because the espresso sits at the top of the drink with the foam) and finishes sweet (because of the vanilla). It is not stirred and is a layered drink. You can order it stirred or upside down and it is then essentially a vanilla latte with caramel sauce. A caramel latte is made with the caramel flavored syrup (not the sauce) and has espresso and steamed milk. It is stirred and the whole drink tastes the same (as it is not layered). Hope this helped!

Probably just the whipped cream and oozement of liquid caramel that goes over the top...and ice if you're having it iced...but not much else..you can prob make it at home. Have a great night!!

They're the same thing. A real machiatto (not in Starbucks land) is espresso with a dash of milk or milk foam on top. At Starbucks, a Caramel Machiatto is just a caramel latte.
