What happens with expired food or other products?!

Question: Well they're not necessarily bad( as some people think).
But it is illegal to sell and even illegal to give to a food bank.
For example, honey( which is the only food that never goes bad and was found in Egyptian pyramids was still good after 5000 years) has an expiration date.
Should I throw it away? Of course not.
Does milk go bad at midnight of the expiration date? That would mean it has its own clock built in( not so). If this were true, why does milk sometimes go bad before the expiration date( even if it were under ideal conditions)?
Yogurt is a great example. Usually yogurt is good for 2 to 3 weeks after the expiration date.
People are totally obsessed with expiration dates. Most of the things would last for months( excluding most dairy and bread) after the dates.
That's the story, believe it or not.
I've been in the food business all my life.
I think I've seen just about everything.
I was in the business before anything had expiration dates on them( except milk).( I think it started in the early or mid 80's).

  • usually it is best to throw them out

they throw it out. or they put it on sale for people to buy it hella fast before it does expire.

past the date of freshness. if you buy a gallon of milk and the date ends the same day.
well the day after your, milk will start to spoil.
so buying expired dated food means it should be off the shelves at the store.
    laney

well they go mouldy and smelly and we throw them in the rubbisha nd get rid of them cuz theyre yucky

If it is in a sealed can it should still be good. Frozen food too. Milk, cheese, meat, bread should be tossed.

    It becomes into poo poo

I am assuming that your question is in regard to what the markets and stores do with the expired product.
Depending on the type of product, canned, bottled, dry goods, fresh fruit or bakery items, they are sent to 'outlets' that sell them at discounted prices.
Fresh fruits and vegetable are sold to local farmers and ranchers as livestock feed. Many of the 'outlet' store sell their outdated baked goods the same way when they are unable to sell it before it molds.
Meats are probably sold to rendering plants or animal food processors.
