Weird tasting coffee.?!

Question: I love the Starbucks Vanilla Frapuccino's, but other than that i find coffee at home, umm; well......disgusting really.
And yet when I go to a diner (like a "mom and pop" place or a "one of a kind place") i can't get enough of their coffee. I've tried all the brands from Folgers to the Store versions and i still find those repulsive while no one else seems to have a problem with it. Has anyone else ever had something weird like this, where they can't stand something and everyone else thinks their weird because that person cannot find anything wrong with what you do??

Do it the old school Italian way and make it on your stovetop (moka pot). Use espresso beans, if you don't want to grind them buy Lavazza or Illy brand, the beans are not burned and it has a mild smooth taste on your palette. Just add water until it is diluted enough to your liking (you are making an americano). There will be no funny after taste just pure coffee.

Try brewing it at different strengths. I drink coffee constantly for most my life but if it's to strong or weak I don't like it.
And if you like Vanilla flavor you can get flavored creamer to add to it. But first get the coffee like you like it then change it up if you like.

Google "Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee". The stuff is expensive, 30+ USD per lb. but it is worth it. Once you have had some, you will not be satisfied with anything else. Don't buy a "blend".

Mavis Bank and CountryTraders.com are a couple of names I can think of right away.

There's coffee and then there's coffee. Most people can't tell the difference, until they get used to the good stuff and then go back to the bad stuff. The store kind of coffee--Folgers, etc.--are made to be brewed really weak and you drink a lot more. Like coffee in a diner or breakfast place. Really good coffee can be made really strong so you don't want as much. If you brew Folgers this strong it tastes brackish and awful.

Making good coffee is not secret or anything. Buy good beans (Starbucks or better yet some local roaster--the fresher the better). Grind them just before you make the coffee. Use a French press or vac pot (your common counter-top drip machine doesn't really get the water hot enough.) Make sure everything is really clean. Use water just off the boil. If your water at home tastes funny, get a Brita or something (In fact the whole difference between your home and Starbucks could be that they filter the water!)

If you really want to get into it, you can roast your own beans at home. That's what I do, but I'm crazy. 8^< (It's sure good coffee though!)

i love the vanilla frapuccino too!!!
