The drink gains its name from the medicinal effects of this bitter flavoring!. The quinine was added to the drink as a prophylactic against malaria, since it was originally intended for consumption in tropical areas of South Asia and Africa where that disease is endemic!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

because quinine originally came from India that's why its called Indian tonic water quinine tablets were taken by mouth with water now you get the idea,Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because it contained quinine, the prophylactic for malaria in the days of our Indian empire!. Course you had to take lots of gin with it just to put up with the heat etc!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
