I grew up in northern Illinois and we called it either soda or pop but pop was the most often heard term!. I now call it either soda or if I want a cola, coke!. Here in Boston, they call it tonic when they mean a soda or a pop!.

When it's in reference to coca-cola or an off brand, then I refer to it as cola!.
