No!. I use a gold filter in an automatic maker and have only once had a problem because I forgot to put the pot under the control valve!. That time I had grinds in the coffee as well as on the machine and part of the counter!. The coffee making style I like least is the so called French press (I don't count instant coffee as real coffee though I admit that that's what I drank when I was starting out on my wicked caffeine path)!. French press does not so much have grinds in it as super fine suspension of micro-particles that create cloudiness!.!.!.and I like very dark and strong but very clear brew!. My now 5 year old Cuisanart maker delivers!Www@FoodAQ@Com
