Caffeine is necessary but not much of it is requried!. It is needed to help our body move sugar around to where it is needed!. However, it also dehydrates us and depletes us of calcium!.
It takes more water for our body to process the caffeine than what a caffeinated beverage provides!. Plus since the water in a drink enters our system quicker and passes through it is long gone while the caffeine is left behind!. This makes it essential to drink water about 15 - 30 minutes after having a caffeinated beverage!.
I do not know how much we actually should get and what level is too much!. Even after looking through a couple of books I have not found it!. Only one references finding excess calcium in urine after people consume 300 mg of caffeine!. That seems like a very high level anyhow!. A serving (8 ounces) of coffee, tea, or soda should have anywhere from 20 - 30 mg of caffeine!. 300 mg would be the equivalent to 10 drinks (80 ounces) which is enough water for a 160 pound person!. That would seem to cause a pretty good case of dehydration too!.
Based on that I would think that an amount of 100 - 150 mg of caffeine in a day should be the maximum safe range!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
