Why aren't we supposed to boil a glass coffee pot empty?!
I was looking at the coffee machine at work and I noticed the coffee pot said not to use it if it were to be boiled empty and was just wondering why this is!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think what it means is to not let the pot boil until its empty!. I did this once, forgot all about it, and the glass just exploded from the heat!. When you have fluids in the pot, it helps to disperse the heat, but, when its empty, it can't handle it, so it breaks!. I'm sure there is some scientific term for it, but, I can't remember it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The reason the glass can break is because of the uneven heating, leading to thermal stresses vertically across the glass!. when there is liquid in there, the liquid aids to heat the coffee pot evenly!. If you have a metal coffee pot, it's safe to ignore that rule, but why would you want charcoal cake coffee anyway!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Boiled empty!?!?!?!? Exactly what would you be boiling!? It's empty!.
Putting a coffee pot on a hot burner can cause the pot to crack and break!. If not at the very least it bakes on any residue in the pot onto the glass making it smell like burnt coffee which is extremly discusting!. It also makes it very hard to clean!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

they mean don't leave the pot on the burner while its on but has no coffee in it
cuz that can beak the glass cuz the water/coffee absorbs most the heat
