my dad used to put a small slice of apple in his humidor to keep his tobacco from drying out, gave it a nice fruity smell tooWww@FoodAQ@Com
The main problem sounds like you didn't properly season the humi before adding the sticks!.
That plus the fact that it sounds like a poor humi!.
Do NOT store them in the freezer, but double bagging them willl help help prolong storage!.
But if they are drying out, it may be too late and only a matter of time!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Either get a real humidor or (for emergencies) put them in a plastic baggie in the refrigerator (they will keep moist but not for too long)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Wrap them in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil!. Place them in the freezer and they should stay fresh for about two-three months!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
