What are the blacks specs in my Brita filter pitcher?!
They're not actually in the pictcher but in the filter part - the part you put the water in!. It comes from the part that the water filters through!. It kind of freaks me out!. We rinsed out the filter part by "sloshing" the water around to clean out the filter but more came out!. We've only had it about a month!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Make sure you soak your Brita filter in water for about 10 minutes and then rinse it off in clean water before you install it!.
If there are still some carbon pieces floating in your water dump the first pitcher of water and try again!.
Either way, these little specs pose no threat but they can be annoying!.

charcoal and other properties used in the filtration part!. sometimes the little bits get through the filter!. it's nothing to worry about!. i got sick of brita doing that and have switched to PUR filters!. i like them much better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Had the same problem, it's charcoal from the filter, perfectly harmless and settles to the bottom!. Just never pour the pitcher dry!. Rinse and shake the filter to disslodge any other loose particles!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It is bits of charcoal which are used to filter the water!. Don't worry there is nothing wrong with!. Better systems are purification and they use solid charcoal blocks rather than little pieces like Britta does!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's just carbon!. Brita uses carbon filters to remove heavy metals and such!. It's normal, mine and my friends' do the same thing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
