Why is there a dent on the bottom of water bottles?!


Question: Why is there a dent on the bottom of water bottles!?
The little dent that goes upwards into the bottle!? what is that for, I mean its not like to carry it is it!? Lol, never knew you carried a bottle upside down!? Just curious (:Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's a technique learned form using glass to make wine bottles!.

Basically, the bump reinforces the base, making the structure sturdier!. They rarely dimple beer bottles because the bump would provide a nucleation point that would cause the beer to shed it's carbonation when opened!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

my guess is for strength!. If the bottle were just round or flat it would be much weaker!. YOU would probably not be able to sit it down because the plastic is to plyable and the bottle would topple over!. That is just my 'guess'!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
