In Canada, and US, they're potato chips - crisps in other countries!.
When I was growing up in the late 60s, we called french fries 'chips', like they do in England!. I still do once in a while and it confounds my teen son!.
In Western Canada where I live, we have pancakes!. I know in the US they call them hotcakes, and other places call them flapjacks!. Drives me crazy, because at our McDonald's they are listed as hotcakes!
What do you call a jam-filled round doughnut with no hole, sugar on the outside - usually regular sugar, sometimes powdered sugar!? We call them Bismarks - but know some people call them jelly doughnuts!.
