Answers:
Your water may contain some nutrients that enable the algae to grow!. You just need to wash the pitcher more often!. Storing it in the refrigerator where it is dark will also help!. Algae is airborne and will grow where there is some light, water and nutrients!. Hydroponic growers use bubblers to air the nutrient rich water to keep algae from growing and consuming the nutrients from the plants!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

because you haven't washed it, use bleach to clean it!.!.!. also, if want really clear/clean water to drink, get yourself a counter top water distiller from Sears, about 100!.00 and distills about a gallon every 5 hours!.!.!. it's truly the cleanest water you'll ever drink!.!.!.
Using Brita, you might just as well strain your water through an old pair of underwear for the job that it does, and if you don't clean it and get algae, you could actually make yourself sick!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to wash it!!! I wash mine each time I replace the filter!. I also put mine in the refrigerator (though I don't think that matters)!. You might need to do some serious cleaning!.!.!. try mixing a 1/2 cap-full of bleach in with water and let it sit for at least an hour to kill all the bugs!. Then wash with hot soap and water and leave to dry!. Now your Brita is clean!.!.!. put a brand new filter in!. Be sure to replace the filter as recommended on the package!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Bacteria casues it!. And it's from not properly cleaning and changing of filters!. Heat can also make it happen at a faster pace!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why isn't it stored in the refrigerator!? I keep my Brita pitcher in the refrigerator, and change the filter at least every 3 mos!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
