Answers:
The bigger better machines mix syrup and water like a regular soda fountain do!. But it freezes it and keeps it mixing and moving!. The fact that it moves makes it impossible to freeze solid so it is just teeny tiny little ice chunks!.

The cheaper machines make you add ice which is crushed and then flavored syrup is added!. This can be duplicated with a blender!.

I prefer the better machines causwe the ice chunks are much smaller and uniform!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

First, ice and flavored syrup are added!. The machine grinds the ice down, then the syrup is added!. There's your icee (: Www@FoodAQ@Com
