I'm surprised you can't find it in Los Angeles!. I was raised in Orange County in the '50's and '60's!. We got sugar cane sticks (or stalks) at the grocery store!. I'm guessing they were about a foot long!. It was about the only sweet thing our mom would let us have!. I know that was a very long time ago, but I'm shocked they don't have it anymore!.

Have you tried looking around Olveira Street at the vendors there!? I think we used to get it there, as late as the '90's!.

My only other thought is a specialty market - maybe Mexican or Phillipine!?!?!? Maybe a Farmer's Market!?!? I'm guessing, here!. I tried a couple of internet searches and didn't come up with anything I thought would be useful to you!.

I'm in Texas and they don't have it here, either!. I loved sugar cane!. It lasted for such a long time!. Hope you can find it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Sugar
(the site has a picture of sugar in the cane form, before processing into the granulated kind we use every day)

If you mean the actual sugar cane PLANT--before it is processed--you would have to go to countries with warm climates, such as Brazil, India, China, Thailand, Mexico and Australia, the top sugar-producing countries in the world!. Other places include Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores, South America , the Caribbean islands , etc!.
If you mean the finished, processed kind you use every day to sweeten your coffee or tea, or whatever, you can buy it at any grocery store/supermarket!. C & H (for California and Hawaii) is one manufacturer of the finished product known as SUCROSE, also called "table sugar" or "saccharose"!. Commercially produced table sugar comes either from sugar cane or from sugar beets!.In a list of ingredients, any word that ends with "-ose" (such as "glucose", "dextrose", "fructose", etc!.) will likely denote a sugar!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
