Answers:
Sorry, your friend's right on this one!. Cocoa is a component of chocolate, the one from which chocolate gets its main flavor and texture!. You can use cocoa powder to make chocolate baked goods or candies, but again it's used as a component of something chocolate!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are both made from cacao beans, but not the same thing!. All cocoa is chocolate, but not all chocolate is cocoa!. Chocolate comes in solid & liquid; and you can get white, dark or milk chocolate; sweet, semi-sweet or unsweetened!. Cocoa is either cocoa powder (nothing else added, not even sugar); or it's a mixture of creamer, cocoa powder and sweeteners!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cocoa beans come from pods in central America and is not sweet!. Chocolate (both milk and semi- sweet) can be made from the cocoa bean, as well as cocoa powder used in making hot chocolate!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
