Did I almost die when drinking a red bull before running for half an hour?!

Question: Did I almost die when drinking a red bull before running for half an hour!?
This morning I was participating in a running race!. I slept 5 hours and thought to get more awake I swallowed a can of red bull just before running for half an hour!. I am 36 and never drink coffee nor red bull!. I ran for half an hour and had an average heart rate of 205!. My maximum was 212!. Though my running time was fairly good!. I was naive when drinking red bull, but was I too careless!?

Normally when I run, let's say semi-trained, I have a maximum heart rate of 200 and an average of around 187!.

Could I have died today!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It probably had more of an effect on you because you are not use to using coffee or energy drinks!. So it probably raised your heart rate a bit more than others who use it them on a regular basis!. You could not have died from it!. If you had a couple of them or if you have an existing heart irregularity which is only a problem when you have a high heart rate then that would be the only time you might be at risk of dying!.

There is nothing wrong with using an energy drinks before a work out or a run!. But it is absolutely essential to drink water with it!. You need the water to be hydrated for your workout anyhow!. Caffeine takes more water to process then the drink provides so it takes it from our bodies which dehydrates us!. When I use energy drinks before a workout I drink 2 glasses of water with it to offset the caffeine!. Unless I have a caffeine free energy drink, then I will just have one glass of water!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think that you would die but it's definitely unhealthy!. I think, provided you don't do it again, you are ok!. I would suggest, if you do, drink a LOT of water, and Poweraid!. It's going to help you stay hydrated!.

If you feel yucky though, I would suggest going to the doctor!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

205, 212!?
my highest heart rate when I'm running is 175-180 and I'm only 27yrs old!

that is dangerous!

don't drink pop, red bull or coffee, just drink plain water, or better drink milk, which will give you strong bones!

Red bull is full of soduim, which is heavy on the heart, and it has alot of sugar and properly caffeine too!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah,''' hope you lear a lesson, stay with water or gatorade!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
