I went to Costa Rica this summer and toured the actual coffee bean crops/plantations which provide every single bean brewed in every Starbucks across the world!.

Because-they make it with the finest ingredients that no other coffee shop has!. Take for example, their frapuchinos-they use it with real milk and you can get it with low fat or no fat milk!. They always take into your consideration if you have allergies or can't have a certain ingredient!. Besides coffee, their smoothies, mugs, cookies, and pastries are the bomb!!

I think it comes down to caring for the final product at all phases!. Combined with good marketing that convinces us we are going to get better!. We expect it and anticipation completes the transaction in our minds!.
Touching on what others have said, it is I think the quality of the coffee beans grinding and other care first, followed by other ingredients!. At my old uni, however, there was a little shop with similar standards!. To me the coffee was just as good, but for like 1/4 the cost!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
