Drinks with dry ice please?!

Question: Drinks with dry ice please!?
Okay here's the deal, I want to make some drinks with dry ice for Halloween, I know all the basics, like don't use too much, buy it right when you need it etc!.!.!. What I just need to know are a few different kinds and they need to be kind of simple!. Oh and also they need to be NONALCOHOLIC for two reasons: I'm underage, and I just don't like to drink!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am pretty sure you can add it to just about any kind of punch or whatever but her are some facts and a recipe I found:
ADD DRY ICE TO BEVERAGES
It is OK to put Dry Ice into beverages for drinking as long as the dry ice is food grade!. Use 2 to 4 pounds of Dry Ice for each gallon of room temperature punch!. Use large pieces of Dry Ice not small pieces!. The Dry Ice is heavier than ice and will sink to the bottom!. Do not use any regular ice! The Dry Ice will do the cooling and must not be eaten or swallowed!. Too much Dry Ice will freeze the beverage so have extra standing by!. It will bubble and give off the most fog when the beverage is room temperature!. When most of the Dry Ice has sublimated, it will surround itself with ice and float to the top!. There is still a small piece of Dry Ice in the center of these ice pieces so do not serve or eat them!. Carefully ladle the beverage into drinking glasses without any Dry Ice!. Add regular ice to glasses for cooler drinks!.

**(Food grade means the CO2 used to make the dry ice is the same quality CO2 as used for soda fountains and also the dry ice can be used to transport food and produce!.)

WITCHES BREW
A first grade teacher gave me the best recipe for "witches brew": 1 can Grape Juice!. (Dark color) 1 can Pineapple Juice!. (Strange pulpy texture) 3-5 pounds of food grade Dry Ice!. (Do not use regular ice) Mix room temperature juices together!. When ready for special brew add the Dry Ice!. Do not touch Dry Ice directly, but use insulated gloves or tongs!. Ladle juice into cups without any Dry Ice and it will be perfectly safe!. If you want cooler drinks add ice to the cups not the punch bowl!.

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide!. It is special because it doesn’t melt!. Dry ice goes straight from solid for to gas form!. This is called sublimation!. If you put dry ice in water, the carbon dioxide will turn to gas and then bubble out!. The carbon dioxide gas itself is non-toxic, but there are two things to be careful about: 1) dry ice and the carbon dioxide it gives off are very very cold, and 2) the carbon dioxide can "displace" air!. If you put a large amount of dry ice in a walk-in freezer, close the door and wait for a significant amount to sublimate, the freezer will be full of carbon dioxide gas!. It is not poisonous, but there will be no oxygen in there to breathe and it will have to be aired out!. Most people do not have enough dry ice to worry about this kind of thing, but manufacturers and vendors of dry ice have to be careful about safe storage of their product!. Dry ice should be handled with gloves or tongs so as not to cause frostbite!.

Adding dry ice to drinks is fine if you are very careful not to injest any of the frozen dry ice!. http://www!.dryiceinfo!.com gives some suggestions for use with, for example, large bowls of punch!. The dry ice will make the punch give off a heavy fog (the cold carbon dioxide bubbles out of the punch, condenses water vapor, and sinks to the floor)!. This can be quite a lot of fun at Halloween parties, as your fruit punch can look like a seething witches’ brew!.

You should use 2-4 pounds of dry ice per gallon of liquid at room temperature!. Use large chunks of dry ice instead of small ones!. Dry ice is heavier than water, so it will sink to the bottom!. This is a very important part, when the dry ice is almost gone, a layer of water will freeze around it!. This chunk will float to the top!. Inside the regular ice is still a piece of dry ice!. This must be removed!. NEVER injest dry ice, even when it is coated with regular ice!. This can cause frostbite inside your stomach! When ladling punch out of the punch bowl, do not include any dry ice, or even ordinary ice as it may have a piece of dry ice inside!. Ordinary ice can be added later!.

So if you have a cooler of regular ice and dry ice, most likely there is some dry ice embeded in the regular ice, and it is best not to eat the ice!. Once it has all melted, there is no problem with the water -- it really is just plain, ordinary water, and the carbon dioxide goes into the air!.

good luck hope you have a fun party !.^_^!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dry ice has no liquid state, when it "melts" it becomes a gas (carbon dioxide)!. That means it will not melt into the drink, which means it will not flavor the drink, it will just dissipate into the air!. So you can use it in whatever you like!.

I would just worry about someone getting some in their mouth and getting a frozen burn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dry ice is solid CO2 -- dangerous to the touch because it's so cold!. It's not a food -- you could be liable for someone's injury!. I recommend you not use it!. It's for professional and industrial use when associated with cooling of foods!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The first poster is wrong; dry ice is NOT liquid nitrogen, it is frozen carbon dioxide!.

Before you use it, I recommend you visit this web page:

No concrete scientific knowledge here!. But something tells me drinking Liquid Nitrogen probably isnt a great idea!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
