Why doesn't root beer make alcohol?!

Question: Why doesn't root beer make alcohol!?
I'm making some root beer for the grandkids and have a question!. Since I am adding yeast to sugar, why does it carbonate the drink but not create alcohol!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Because you don't leave it long enough to ferment!.
Root beer will create alcohol, by the way, if it's left for a while in a cosy, warm environment!. But because it expands when the fermentation process is going on, and the glass bottle doesn't, the bottles will explode!. We made a batch one time that was stored in too warm a setting and it sounded like an artillery site when the bottles began to explode!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
