Does the acid in coke seriously destroy your stomach?!
I drink coke quite alot - I know its bad for me,and I am going to quit after the holidays!. Anyway, my friend always tells me, in a kind of demeaning way that the acid in coke is dissolving my stomach!. Is it true!?

The acid in Coke is strong and can do some damage to many things but your own stomach acid is much stronger!. Coke will not hurt your sthomach lining at all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The lining of the stomach secretes hydrochloric acid-I doubt Coke's carbolic acid could compete with that!. However, there are many studies showing that it's hard on your teeth and waistline, and ingesting a lot of sugar (which Coke definitely has) can predispose one to developing diabetes!.

When a person eats food, the stomach secretes acid to digest the food!. High protein and high calcium content foods produce a larger acid secretion!.
I don't think drinking coke is going to 'eat your stomach' but adding more acid can cause other problems!.

The acid in coke will corrode a metal put in it!. This is true!. However, if you ever saw what the gastric acid that is naturally occurring in your stomach would do to a piece of metal you would not be worried about the Coke!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
