Can tea be made from a coffee pot?!

Question: Can tea be made from a coffee pot!?
I want to get an electric tea pot on a timer for my dad since he wants to give up coffee, but although there are electric tea pots, none of them are set to timers!. If you were to just pour the tea contents into the coffee filter, would it work in a coffee pot!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes, you can, but you probably don't want to!.

Tea is less forgiving than coffee!. The amount of tea used, the time its brewed/steeped, and the temperature are all very important, much more so than with coffee!.

If you do buy something for your Dad, make sure that it's for tea only and not for coffee!. If you try to brew most teas (especially high quality teas like green and oolong) in a coffee maker, the time and temperature will just ruin the tea (or make it so tannic that it will be undrinkable)!.

I don't know if this is a good product, but it's the sort of appliance you want to consider:

Sure but it may be a bit weak!. Normally, with bags or a tea ball, the tea soaks in the hot water for a time to get as strong or as weak as you want it!. Via your proposed method, once the water passes through the tea its done!. It would happen so quick that I think it would be rather weak so if you wanted it stronger you are out of luck!. Worth a try though if you already have a coffee maker around to try it with!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a bit of tea snob, and even I find this a pretty good way to make tea!. My biggest suggestion is to dedicate this pot to making just tea!. Once you've made coffee in it, the coffee oil residue will taint the tea!. Loose tea works better, but a friend of mine uses tea bags, and unless you're a purist, it's decent tea!. What a thoughtful gift!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes but, I would suggest cleaning the pot thourougly and the place where you put the filter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It sure can, just tear open the tea bags and put it in where the coffee goes!.same results!Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes!.!.!. no need to buy anything fancy!!!!! use the coffee maker!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

absolutely!. get loose tea, and there you go!. (loose as in not bagged)Www@FoodAQ@Com
