I have one of those fridges that filter and dispense water. Why does the water taste bad?!

Question: I have one of those fridges that filter and dispense water!. Why does the water taste bad!?
I had one of those fridges before which is why I bought another one!. We're in a different house now, and there is a little of a mold problem in the bathrooms, and the water tastes really bad!. could it be the water in the whole house!. the fridge is new, and so is the filter, so I don't think it's that!. Help please!.

With new filters you need to run some water through first to get rid of some of the charcoal dust that is in there!. Once the excess dust is gone it should improve the taste!.

also if it is just a basic filtration system then it does not do much!. Basic filters remove a few minerals that affect taste and odor and that are considered contaminates!. There may be other things in the water that affect taste that basic filters do not work on!. Purification systems are much better!.

Finally there are other minerals that can be in the water that can affect the taste that are not considered contaminates!. So filters or even purification systems do not remove them!. Even the best system can still give you water that tastes bad if there are not actual contaminates to remove!.

The best thing you should do is have your basic house water tested as well as get to know the exact system on your fridge and what it is rated for and what it removes!. Once you know what is in your water and if it is actually considered a contaminate or not then you can better address how to improve the taste!. Your local water company or local health department should be the best places to start to ask about testing your water!. Some companies may offer free testing but they also may be doing this in hope of selling their system to you so be cautious about their agenda!.

My personal opinion on this is that if filter is a system that is part of the firdge when you bought it then it is not good enough!. Just like Pur and Brittas they use only basic filters and are not worth the money!. You are better off getting a regular fridge without a filter in it and then getting your own purification system to purify the water and ice from the fridge!. A good purification system will actually be cheaper in the long run per gallon than those worthless filters are!. The prime example of this is the eSpring system!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Must be the water in the house!. Did you check if there is also bad odor from the water!? Have your pipes checked!. Sometimes if the house is built badly, sewerage pipes may be installed next to water pipes and corrosion will contaminate the water supply!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You said the fridge and filter are new!. This could be part of the problem!. Try running a gallon or so of water through!. The taste should improve!. You'll be removing any loose filter particles and any flavors leached from the plastic water supply line!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You don't say if you have city water,or a well!. If you have a well, dump a coffee can of bleach down the well, but have a container of bottle water on hand till the bleach is gone!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

You might try changing the filter anyway!. that's what I had to do when our water tasted odd!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

cuz bottled water adds stuffWww@FoodAQ@Com
