How safe is it to drink water from a bottle that has been left standing for a few weeks?!

Question: How safe is it to drink water from a bottle that has been left standing for a few weeks!?
Like, you have broken the seal, taken a sip, and then put the cap back on!.

Is it thus safe to continue to sip from it or could the water possibly have bacterial growth in it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Good question and this has happened to me before!. I refer to the ol' "rule of thumb" when it comes to food & drink: "When in doubt, throw it out!."

If I'm not sure, then I'll err on the side of caution and would throw it out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My guess would be that letting water sit in a plastic water bottle for more that a few DAYS would be unsafe because of the toxins in the plastic!.

But leaving water out in a normal, room temperature place for more that i think 48 hours is not healthy water to drink so leaving it for week would be more and more unhealthy!.

And also I personally wouldn't want to drink the water after it has been sitting because it DOES get old and it starts to taste like there are particles of dust in it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

bacteria is number one!. green or black stuff can grow inside the water bottle just check to see if it is there!.!.!.or!.!.!.if you really want to taste test it just smell it!.!.if it smells i think the nose can tell you!. if you still want to keep the bottle i suggest rinsing it with bleach!.!.!.i have had this happen to my pets water bottle!.!.!.after a couple of weeks it has gross stuff floating in it i clean the bottle good and rinse it out then put fresh water in it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is actually a really good question!. I know I have drank it like this before but it was refridgerated!. So I'd be interested to know the answer to this question too!. I was watching an episode of Man vs Wild one night and Bear found an old bottle of bottled water that was half full and he drank it!.

Thanks for asking this!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not worth the risk!. Yes, your sip introduced bacteria!. Unless you are in the middle of the sahara, just get a glass of tap water (with ice)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ummm!.!.like for how many days!?

it's not THAT bad!.!.!.!.i dunnoWww@FoodAQ@Com
