Assuming it is the model that has a hot plate!.!.!.it will probably burn dry and make a sticky mess!. But your dog should be fine :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not much will help you with leaving it on but there is an easy way to get the burned coffee out of the bottom of the pot with out soaking and scrubbing!.
While the pot is still hot take it off the burner and put 10 or 12 ice cubes in it and just swish them around in the hot coffee pot!.The ice will remove the burned on coffee and then you can just rinse it out!.Remember the pot has to be hot!.Swish it around until the ice is mostly melted!.It may take a minute but it works really well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's why I bought a coffee pot that turns itself off!. They work great!. I have come home a couple times in the past to a shattered pot and burn smell!. I guess I'm lucky I didn't have a fire!.

How much coffee was left in the pot!? If it was at least half you should be fine!. If it was 1/4 full than the liquid will evaporate and the pot could shatter like mine did!. If your lucky that's the worst of it!. Otherwise there is alway a chance of fire!. I do hope your dog will be OK!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Without knowing the model it is hard to say, but 5 hours is a long time so you could have a red hot unit when you get home!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
