Yes, it is expensive, but I don't think it should shock anyone that much!.
You sat down in a cafe (for which you will always pay a premium) and ate, and drank in what sounds like a nice environment!.
My guess is it would break down something like this!.
Pasties £3!.50 each (£7 total)
Coffee £2 each (£4 total)
To put this in comparison, it is no more expensive than a small latte at Starbucks or Costa, actually somewhat cheaper if my breakdown is accurate, and the pasties were hot, and, hopefully served on a plate, which is about average for a "hot snack" in most pubs or cafe's!.
You could, of course get it cheaper, a Ginsters pastie would be about a pound each from a supermarket (cold), a little more, maybe £1!.50, from a service station (which probably has a microwave), and a service station coffee would also be in the £1-£1!.50 range, but you would of course not get anywhere to sit, or a plate, or cutlery!. The pastie would be cold, or soggy from a microwave, and your coffee would be either instant, or some kind of a ground coffee/UHT "latte" milk combo, served in a paper cup!.
So no doubt, £11 is a lot, but £2 each to sit in a "quaint shop" in west sussex, to eat a, hopefully hand made pastie and drink hopefully nice, fresh, personally prepared coffee!.!.!. Depending on the kind of day i'd had, if I'm cold and wet and have another 4 hours driving ahead of me, doesn't seem so bad after all!.
And I'd probably rather put the money in a mom-and-pop buisness than a mega-conglomerate's pocket!. I think we should be supporting our locally run buisnesses, even if there is a little bit of a price premium for it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Anyone who has money to chuck away on such frivolities deserves to be taken on that sort of ride!.
Ginsters pasties - 2 @ £1!.00, a small jar of coffee 69p, 250g pack of sugar 38p and a pint of milk 42p doesn't cost anything like £11 and you'd have enough stuff left over to open your own coffee shop AND you can't tell me that their overheads warranted THAT much percentage over costs which in any case, they would get at wholesale rates - delivered too where I have merely quoted ordinary supermarket prices!.
I wonder just how much longer all these coffee shops - especially the big 'chains' will last now with all the credit crunch nonsense - or will the 'crunch' find a place on their price lists ! ! ! Don't forget, even Dick Turpin wore a hat!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Did they have masks on !? Robbers normally do!. Its scandalous!. You probably did'nt realise until you had already ordered!.You will know better next time!. I'd rather starve and de-hydrate than pay those prices!. How can that be justified!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
The coast of a cup of coffee is outrageous!. I agree with you!. I refuse to pay that kind of money and have given up coffee when I am out!. Now I drink tea as it is so much cheaper!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Totally ridiculous!. I now only have coffee when I'm out on special occasions or I really feel I need a break or if I'm meeting up with someone!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Blimey - are they taking the Michael or what!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
