Tea versus dinner I need an explanation?!
What's the difference between to have a tea and to have dinner!? I think that having a tea means to eat something in the late afternoon that excludes dinner then!. I'm not sure!. It's a sort of equivalent of brunch in the morning!?

Dinner time used to be around 12pm-1!.0 pm (when I was at school, about 100 years ago)and was the main meal of the day, everyone who could went home for dinner!.Tea was around 4!.0pm-5!.0pm and consisted of something like bread and butter and celery and maybe a little bit of cheese or bread and jam with some cake (if you were lucky)!.So,With so many people working all day the main meal is taken in the evening,to be called dinner or tea, according to how they view it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Up north, people have "dinner" at midday and "tea" in the evening!. Posh southerners have "lunch" at midday and "dinner" in the evening!.
To make things more complicated, as posh people started to eat their dinner later and later in the evening, they needed something to tide them over between lunch and dinner!. "High tea" was invented to bridge the gap!. Taken at around 4!.00pm, it would generally consist of a few sandwiches, some cake or biscuits and a cup of tea!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
