Is the coffee sold at "gourmet" coffee shops (Starbucks, etc) really any better than the stuff you make at home!
I am considering the idea of opening a coffee shop (non-franchise) in my home town.
After years of pounding coffee at various restaurants, coffee shops, coffee franchises, etc.... I've come to one conclusion:
Most of the coffee I've had at these places is no better, and in some cases, not as good, as the Folgers we make in the $18.00 Mr. Coffee at work.
Is this a purely subjective finding, or..... have you had encountered the same findings?
When you do go for coffee, what brand (commercial) do you enjoy most?

I used to think it was better until I tried one brand of instant coffee once that tasted exactly like the one I have in starbucks! Personally I think it is down to the strength, I know the coffee I tend to have at home is weaker than in starbucks. Out of my faves Starbucks is my preferred choice though nothing beats the atmosphere of one of the independents! Good luck with the business. :)
Costa because they have newspapers
