Baaaa....

'cause people are sheep.

My obvious answer is that human abuse of nature resulted in polluting most water sources worldwide and of course the bottled water companies destroy or confiscate most newly discovered fresh water sources especially those discovered in sea.
Bahrain is known and the exact translation of the word BAHRAIN means 2 seas the main reason in history for this name was because fresh unsalted drinkable water exists in the sea surrounding the island, Lebanon is well known also to have such kind of fresh water in the sea and war cost a lot in the country till Israel came in 2006 and bombed oil tankers by the shore in south lebanon in order to destroy hopes of using this fresh water.
So enjoy bottled water and pollute more using plastic bottles.
As for buying filters cost is too high as only big factories can afford to buy efficient ones the best to purify water is evaporating and so its not convenient for average people.

That's a great question! I have an Aquasana filter at home, and it provides clean water for about 10 cents a gallon. Bottled water, on average, costs about $8.00 a gallon! (That's more expensive than a gallon of gasoline!) Of course, water bottles create a lot of plastic waste, and the plastic bottles may leach chemicals into the water. For practical reasons and health reasons, it certainly makes sense to invest in a water filter. Some may not be too bright. My mother-in-law insists on bottled water for their home. She won't get a filter because she says she wants the water tested. My in-laws have lived in the same large small town their entire lives. Many people do not move away and people are still separated by about three degrees of separation. (My husband's sisters still live there [the younger one still living at home at age 25] and people are still separated by about three degrees of separation.) The water there is pretty decent. I have no reservations drinking straight from the tap. Not only does she buy the gallon jugs for home use, but bottled water for travel. The woman is a study in contradictions-- She'll insist on the "perfect" water (never mind we have told her it is just filtered tap water), but consume processed junk "food" (store bought cookies, even Toll House cookies, potato chips, cake mixes, fried food, etc.) She buys that stuff (and other unnecessary things), but talks about not having money. It would be quite amusing, if it weren't sad.

We have a filter for one of our sinks. We also have reusable jugs which we fill. We live in a rural area and have well water. Even though I"m more relaxed (as I said, I will drink from my in-laws tap, provided the water is at least cool), I wouldn't drink it straight from the tap unless it was necessary. I've seen and smelled it at times, and it's not pretty. When visiting, my MIL will bring the "good" water, knowing full well that we filter our water.

That being said, I also have three stainless steel water bottles that I fill to take with me places. The best one I got I actually rescued from a trash pile. I got another one, with a sport cap, but the lid doesn't stay on it. It works well for driving, so I don't have to mess with the lid. (When I go places, I at least have my 11-week-old baby with me) I also have one that I got from the Dollar Tree. It's not bad, but the lid doesn't always go on well.

Apparently, sadly there is still a market for it, or millions of bottles would not be sold every year.

The water that comes out of the tap in my city tastes terrible all year long. In August, when the algae is dying it is even worse. If bottled water is an addition, then do I need to go to rehab?

Good question. My nephew keeps losing the nalgene bottles he's given to take filtered water. It just makes more sense to give him the disposable bottle than having to buy replacement bottles.

1 Convenience
2 Can't take a filter to work/school/etc
3 No good filters available
4 Time

b'coz they are too health concious and dont want to take risk with new things.

LOL thats what we do.
