Can anyone explain why most coffee doesn't taste as good as it smells?!

Question: Can anyone explain why most coffee doesn't taste as good as it smells?
I've wondered about this since I was a kid. While I really do like good coffee, it still holds true for me. Thanks for some insight.

Answers:

like the others said, it has a bitter taste. it smells better because bitterness doesn't have a scent

obviously some sugar can solve the taste problem :D

Because coffee has a bitter taste. And that's really all there is too it, honestly. If you don't like the taste you could always add some sugar or use coffee creamer.

It just has a bitter taste.

I've never really liked coffee myself...but I'd say that it has an acquired taste.
