Why does green tea tastes like cigarettes?!

A good Green Tea should have a golden yellow colour and a slightly bitter taste. I only drink quality Japanese Green Tea varieties like Gyokuro and Sencha.

my guess is that you are probably brewing it too long, which creates an intense aroma and taste (much like burnt paper or cigarettes). using boiling water, only brew your tea for about 10-15 seconds. the longer you brew it, the darker the color will be (and stronger the taste). green tea should be light in color (like a light yellow). it also depends on the type of green tea you use. there are various kinds. some are light and refreshing (and the leave very delicate in texture), while other are strong and heavily caffeinated (the leaves are long, dark and thick)... which when brewed for a long time can taste horrible. tea is much like coffee. it all depends on the bean, how its roasted and how its brewed. if you don't like green tea, eat fruits and vegetables that are high in anti-oxidents (which is what the benefits of green tea are).

So THAT'S why it tastes so horrible ... why do most nutritious things taste bad??

Ok you're asking the question here, and the answer is i gulp it down most of the time or take it with a sandwich or add lots of honey/sugar to it but then it kinda goes unhealthy right? What a dilemma!

Some people told me that they hated it at first but after a while they got hooked, a bit like cigarettes too!

I just tried some for the first time and it just tastes earthy. I tastes leavy. haha

Tobacco is a leaf, green tea from tea leaves. It kind of makes sense that some flavours would be similar to tobacco flavour. I personally hate green tea, but I do smoke. Maybe I should start smoking green tea ;-)
