Why has Lipton tea grown so big in America?!

Question: Why has Lipton tea grown so big in America?
It's really THE cheapest tea, in terms of quality, made from the worst grade tea leaves and the left over tea leaf 'dust'.
I, as a black tea lover, find it kind of bland and . . . Gross.
So why is it so popular? Is it because it's cheap? Or because people are just ignorant about good tea?
I'm really curious. What do you think?

I think it has the best flavor, I have tried several and Lipton tastes the best to me.

i don't even think that it's because it's so cheap b/c there are other cheap ones out there, too. i think it's that there is not a big tea culture here in the u.s. like in the u.k. for example, that people just know that brand and don't bother to think any more about it. so, just brand recognition, i'd say.

Who knows I only buy Red Rose, and you get a little glass animal in the box. So cute.

it's yummy!
