Why is coffee legal when it's a drug?!

Question: Why is coffee legal when it's a drug?
I thought that coffee was a drug, and people can actually get addicted to it. It also can cause health defects just like those other illegal drugs....
So why isn't it illegal?

Answers:

>Gee, does everything have to be regulated by the government??? Think about it, do you want the government to regulate your coffee? The next thing you know, they will add a tax to it. Don't give them any big ideas please...they already get enough of my money.

To be frank, people have been drinking tea and coffee since prehistoric times, just like using salt and sugar and other things...none of those things have to be regulated or taxed, even though salt once was a controlled, taxable substance. Did you know that the Romans used to pay their soldiers with salt? And the British controlled salt and taxed it in India. Salt has at times been worth more than gold and has been used as money in-kind.

But the fact is, we don't need more government interference in our lives, viz - making it hard to buy coffee by setting up special stores (ABC type stores) where you have to be an adult and pay some heavy taxes to get it - like alcohol.

mcdonalds is addictive. mcdonalds can cause health defects

Why don't you mind your own business...

Why isn't it illegal - because weak minded fuddy duddies like you that worry about what other people do haven't made a big stink about it...

Lots of drugs are legal. No reason for coffee to be illegal. Aspirin is legal.

Yeah I agree. I know people that are just hooked on it and can't go without their cup. I guess the main reason is because it SELLS... and has no OBVIOUS side-effects.
