Is it true that coca cola neutralizes tear gas?!
I read in Newsweek that Egyptian protesters use coca-cola to neutralize the effects of tear gas. Is that true, does it work, and if so how?
Answers:
Plain water will neutralize tear gas by washing it away. I don't know of anything special about Coca-Cola that would make it useful for this purpose, and you certainly don't want to put it in your eyes (it contains phosphoric acid). Acids in general are said to help neutralize tear gas (for example, a rag soaked in citrus juice or vinegar), but the evidence is anecdotal.
You pour the coca cola into your eyes and it stops the tear gas...
